SPECIAL EVENTS Fit For Duty Circuit Training In 2013, 32 firefighters died in the line of duty as the result of a medical emergency, 29 of which were classified as cardiac-related events. The Firehouse “Fit for Duty” Initiative is designed to emphasize the importance of firefighter health and fitness throughout the conference. This program will also provide attendees with creative fitness ideas for company level workouts, provide an opportunity to build camaraderie, burn calories and focus on transitioning the fire service into a more health-conscious service. THURSDAY, JULY 16, 2015 • Circuit Workout This is a 35-minute circuit workout (6-minute warm-up, 24-minute circuits, 5 minute cool down and stretch). Workouts begin with a large group warm-up led by firefighter/fitness instructors. Following the warm-up, attendees split into 6 different stations to complete the rapid-paced circuit workout. 9-11 Memorial Stair Climb SATURDAY, JULY 18 | REGISTRATION: 8:30 AM – 10:00 AM STAIR CLIMB: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM Join the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation on July 18, 2015 for the 9-11 Memorial Stair Climb, being held during Firehouse Expo in Baltimore, Maryland. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Hilton Baltimore and the climb will begin at 10:00 a.m. The 9-11 Memorial Stair Climbs are not timed race events, but a way for firefighters and members of the community to honor and remember the FDNY firefighters who selflessly gave their lives so that others might live. Each participant pays tribute to a FDNY firefighter by climbing the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center. Your individual This year’s exhibit floor will feature a Fitness Showcase designed to magnify the critical issue of firefighter health & fitness. Every hour on the hour (during exhibit hall hours), featured firefighters/ fitness instructors will provide an 8-minute fitness demonstrations in which they will be applying sports science to common firefighter tasks/movements. Some specific tasks/movements that will tribute not only remembers the sacrifice of an FDNY brother, but symbolically completes their heroic journey to save others. Through firefighter and community participation we can ensure that each of the 343 firefighters is honored and that the world knows that we will never forget. The proceeds of these events help the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation create and maintain programs that support fire service survivors. Proceeds from your $30 registration provides assistance to the surviving families and co-workers of the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.
