HANDS-ON TRAINING We are excited to have Baltimore City and several surrounding departments offering their support to host this year’s HOT sessions. MONDAY/TUESDAY/WEDNESDAY JULY 13-15, 2015 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Live Fire - NFPA 1403 Fixed Facility Instructor Certification Class Class limit: 32 Kevin Milan, Fire Marshal, South Metro, CO, Fire Rescue Forest Reeder, Division Chief, Training & Safety, Des Plaines, IL, FD This program is a blend of distance learning and an intense 3-day, hands-on academy focusing on live fire instructor responsibilities. It’s based on NFPA 1403 Standard on Live Fire Training and references “Live Fire Instructor Principles and Practices” by Jones & Bartlett. Students will complete an on-line course prior to the hands-on portion and pass written and practical examinations to earn a three-year credential. Required PPE: NFPA compliant turnout gear including helmet, eye protection, flash hood, gloves, coat, pants, boots, SCBA and one extra cylinder. All PPE must be free of major defects and in good working condition. TUESDAY/WEDNESDAY JULY 14-15, 2015 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Burning Down the (Doll’s) House 1-day class / 2 offerings Class limit: 16 Ed Hartin, Chief, Central Whidbey Island, WA, Fire & Rescue This workshop presents important lessons in practical fire dynamics and demonstrates how small-scale, live 8 #FHExpo15 fire props develop a solid understanding of structural fire behavior in modern built environment. Small-scale props are used to demonstrate fire development, flashover, backdraft and the influence of flow path on fire behavior. This session begins in the classroom with a review of some basic fire behavior concepts (25%) and will quickly move outside to the practical exercises (75%). Required PPE: NFPA compliant turnout gear including helmet, eye protection, flash hood, gloves, coat, pants, boots. All PPE must be free of major defects and in good working condition. Heavy Rescue: Overturns and Underrides 1-day class / 2 offerings Class limit 40 Billy Leach, Jr., Developer & Senior Presenter, Big Rig Rescue In this intense hands-on training course, you’ll learn the safest and most efficient tools and techniques for heavy lifting and stabilization of big rigs involved in collisions with smaller vehicles, using real world incidents. Required PPE: NFPA compliant turnout gear (or equivalent extrication attire) including helmet, eye protection, flash hood, gloves, coat, pants, boots. All PPE must be free of major defects and in good working condition. LIVE FIRE - Basement Fire Operations 1-day class / 2 offerings Class limit: 40 Robert Moran, Fire Chief, Brewster, MA, Fire Rescue John Lewis, Lieutenant (ret.), Passaic, NJ, FD This dynamic live burn program focuses on the coordinated execution of essential strategic and tactical tasks critical to safely combating these complex and hazardous incidents. Emphasis will be placed on the actions of first-arriving companies at private dwelling fires including; fire attack search and rescue, hose selection and management, laddering, and ventilation.
