Educational Initiatives Promote the Industry’s Well Being Along with hosting 40+ seminars, GRAPH EXPO 16 also spotlights the educational initiatives of industry groups, who work to advance the print and graphic communications ability to attract young people to the industry, while also celebrating all that it has to offer. First, turn your attention to Education Main Street, where the Print and Graphic Scholarship Foundation (PGSF) has set up shop in booth 563. Here, you can learn about the printing industry’s largest scholarship program since its inception 60 years ago. Individuals, companies, and associations provide both annual and endowed scholarship funds to PGSF, which administers the scholarship and fellowship programs for the industry. PGSF has grown into the industry’s largest scholarship program, now annually providing an excess of $410,000 to over 200 students. Two companies recently joined the ranks of PGSF scholarship donors. The Alcom Printing Group Scholarship endowment will be funded at the Print Heritage endowment level of $25,000. The scholarship was established in recognition of the 60th anniversary year of PGSF. Nova Pressroom Products named a scholarship in honor of one of its founders, Charles (Chuck) Malspeis. Nova established the Charles Malspeis Memorial Scholarship endowment, funded initially at the Print Heritage level of $25,000, as a memorial for Malspeis, and also in recognition of the 60th anniversary year of PGSF. For a full list of scholarship recipients, visit: pgsf. org/2016-2017-pgsf-scholarship-recipients. PGSF also announced the winner of its 2016 PGSF College Poster Design Competition. Rebecca Eller, a student from Lewis-Clark State College, Lewiston, Idaho, drew the winning entry. The poster, titled “Your Future is Out There … Create it,” will be distributed to all colleges and high schools in the U.S. that have printing and graphic communication programs for the 2016-2017 academic year. This student-designed poster is used to promote the availability of scholarships for students pursuing a career in the graphic communication industry. The posters are also available in the PGSF Booth 563 at Education Main Street during GRAPH EXPO 16. The Street will also the place to learn all about the Graphic Arts Education and Research Foundation (GAERF)’ s range of activities, including Preparing Tomorrow’s Workforce (Booth 562), designed to support a strong future for the industry to include competencies, assessments, accreditation programs, and a partnership with SkillsUSA (Booth 571), which delivers fi ve online PrintED/SkillsUSA Skill Connect Assessments to provide successful completers with a student certifi cation to validate their mastery of academic and workplace competencies.
