Making it Perfect with Riso Since 1986, Riso, Inc. (Booth 1248) has developed some of the world’s best solutions for a variety of specialized sectors in document printing and duplicating, providing the type of technology typically available on high-cost equipment at a lower price. Combining power and versatility in a small footprint, the RISO Perfect Binder converts a ComColor X1 Series printer into a self-contained, high-speed book manufacturing solution for both short runs and high-volume book production. RISO’s inkjet Perfect Binder Solution—composed of a RISO ComColor X1 9150 inkjet printer and its new Perfect Binder accessory—prints, collates, trims, and binds full color books up to 600 pages (300 sheets of 20 lb. bond) with ease, speed and effi ciency. RISO’s in-line system also enables full color printing of the covers and pages, with the ability to insert pre-printed covers and pages as well. The RISO Perfect Binder incorporates the advantages of inkjet technology and the production speed of the ComColor X1 Series printers into an industry that can’t always accommodate smaller printing runs. The high speed, fully automatic RISO Perfect Binder is a new accessory for the X1 Series, broadening its range of applications and building on the company’s history of technological innovation. It is engineered for use in a wide range of industries and settings, such as corporate, commercial, and educational environments. RISO’s Perfect Binder Solution revolutionizes the way the industry processes short-run and on-demand book printing. Unlike more conventional perfect bind workfl ows, which can require several pieces of specialized equipment to be confi gured together, taking up valuable time and fl oor space, the RISO Perfect Binder Solution performs all the steps of printing, adjusting, trimming, gluing, forming, and fi nishing all in one compact, self-contained package that fi ts within an 8x12' corner of your print facility. With this full-color cut sheet inkjet solution, on-demand printings and short runs can be completed without massive reconfi gurations of equipment, which cost printers time and money before production can even begin. The Perfect Binder accommodates varying book thicknesses up to 300 sheets / 600 pages (1.5mm to 30mm), and offers the fl exibility of printing covers as part of the book production, or inserting pre-printed covers and pages as needed. A cover layout program simplifi es cover design, including spine printing, and a print preview function enables complete pre-print editing to reduce errors. In addition to its small size, the Perfect Binder is extremely fast—its cut-sheet inkjet print engine can produce spot color or full color at speeds of up to 150 ppm—and trims and forms at an impressive speed. The solution has been clocked making full color, 100-page 8.5x 11" books from electronic fi le at a rate of about one a minute. On-demand orders for perfect bound books can literally be turned around in an hour, and short runs addressed in a fraction of the time that more traditional workfl ows would require. HP Indigo Pack Ready: Indigo Printed, Ready to Pack The labels and packaging market needs speed and versatility to produce the applications needed, when they’re needed, on demand. Today, global consumer goods companies have acknowledged the advantages of digital printing technology and are incorporating it into their supply chains. To bring additional effi ciencies to labels and packaging converters and brands, HP (Booth 1825) introduced HP Indigo Pack Ready. HP Indigo Pack Ready is a set of post-print converting solutions developed and patented by HP, and selected best-in-class partners that enables high-performance applications and immediate time to market. The HP Indigo Pack Ready ecosystem is designed to maximize the value of HP Indigo digital print for labels and packaging. Current solutions in the ecosystem include HP Indigo Pack Ready Lamination and HP Indigo Pack Ready Coating. Pack ready lamination Pack Ready Lamination streamlines the lamination process, reducing the production timeline from up to 10 days, depending on the types and coating weights of adhesives, to minutes. With zero cure time, Pack Ready Lamination eliminates current process limitations and unlocks the benefi ts of fast, digitally printed fl exible packaging, enabling users to fi nish the products and ship them on demand for faster speed-to-market. A game-changer in fl exible packaging, Pack Ready Lamination creates a high-quality, high-performance composite laminate fi lm without the use of adhesives, and provides strong laminate bond strength instantly. Pack Ready Lamination far exceeds the durability requirements for general performance fl exible packaging applications and enables new high-performance application opportunities, such as retort, for advanced fl exible packaging converters. Retort pouches, used to package heat-treated food, are one of the fastest growing applications in the fl exible packaging industry. Pack ready coating Designed to fi t into a fl exible packaging production environment, HP Indigo Pack Ready Coating technology is a solvent based solution that extends the application range of digitally printed fl exible packaging to high-performance packaging applications, such as retort. For surface-printed fl exible packaging applications, Pack Ready Coating technology can provide excellent protection for the HP Indigo ElectroInk layer against aggressive heat sealing conditions, water, and aggressive chemicals. Pack Ready Coating should be applied on top of the printed fi lm, prior to lamination. This additional step can be done on standard solvent-based coaters in an offl ine process. When applied on the HP Indigo printed fi lm, HP Indigo Pack Ready Coating technology penetrates the HP Indigo ElectroInk layer and crosslinks polymer chains of printed fi lm, primer, and ink to create a new molecular architecture of polymers. Pack Ready Coating, in conjunction with HP Indigo ElectroInk printed on the nonfood contact side of selected polymeric multilayer food packaging, complies with the applicable provisions of European food legislation, under well-defi ned use conditions and printing conditions. Availability Pack Ready Lamination and Coating is ideal for use with the HP Indigo 20000 Digital Press. The Pack Ready laminator supports optional in-line connectivity with the HP Indigo 20000. Pack Ready Lamination and Coating will be commercially available in 2017. 60 | September 27, 2016 | GRAPH EXPO 16 Offi cial Show Daily | PrintingNews.com
