2017 STATE OF THE SECURITY INDUSTRY REPORT
Key Video Technology and Service
Advancements
Respondents were asked what video technology or service advancements
are most important to your business. They were asked to select their
Top 3 advancements. Here are their responses in order of priority.

and Manageable
Video Solutions Key
The video surveillance landscape has
undergone dramatic changes over the last
15 years, moving from an analog-dominated
industry to one that is overwhelming
IP-centric. Without a doubt the most stunning
advancements have been on the software side,
as surveillance management and analytics
solutions now drive video purchases as much
as the cameras themselves, which have
evolved into a strict commodity purchase.
In a recent vendor roundtable conducted
by SecurityInfoWatch.com, several shared
insights related to where they see the market
headed in 2017.
One global vertical marketing manager said
solution selling is defi nitely one of the most
immediate reactions. In addition, we are likely
to see an increased investment in software
development in areas including smart
forensics, non-traditional analytics and other
alternative ROI. On the hardware side, we will
likely be seeing new developments including
better and smarter image processing, multiple
imagers, unique form factors and others.
Another sales vice president added companies
that can “walk the talk” of the open platform
will rise to the top. Many sophisticated and
value-rich features exist today and are in
development for tomorrow, so to be truly
innovative; manufacturers must embrace
their business model with focus equal to
their technical innovation model. We are at a
crossroads now in this industry: platforms are
the building blocks for the innovation of today
and tomorrow. Innovation in and of itself may
very easily (and wrongly) be delivered without
a platform – and that is a short-term vision.
Respondents were asked what video
technology or service advancements they
view as most important to their business and
majority stated that being able to provide
their clients video platforms linking security
devices for a more scalable, agile and elastic
solution was their top preference (52%),
followed closely by improved video analytics
and forensics software (41%), along with video
verifi cation capabilities (37%) and enhanced
cybersecurity on end-devices (26%).
